The Interim Provost, Dr. E. Jane Martin, acts on behalf of the President when the President is unavailable. The Office of the Provost is located on the second floor of Stewart Hall on University Avenue in Morgantown.
E. JANE MARTIN, PhD, RN, FAAN
Dr. E. Jane Martin, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research, was Senior Advisor to the Vice President of Health Sciences at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, West Virginia University from 2007-2008, following her appointment as Professor and Dean of the School of Nursing, at WVU, Professor of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry in the School of Medicine, and Director of Nursing Academic Services (WVUH), from 1992 to 2007. Prior to that appointment she was Professor and Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Akron (1988-1992). From 1982-1988 she was Associate Dean for Graduate Academic Affairs and Director of the Doctoral Program in Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh. Martin earned a BSN Ed from West Virginia University, an MA in English from the Ohio State University, and a MN in Psychiatric Mental-Health Nursing and a PhD in Higher Education at the University of Pittsburgh. She has had post-graduate education in administration (Management Development Program, Harvard University), in mind-body medicine (Institute for Mind-Body Medicine, Washington, D.C.), in integrative cancer care (Mind-Body Wellness Center, Meadville, PA) and in Holistic Depth Psychology (Progoff Intensive Journal Method, New York City, NY).
Dr. Martin is an experienced educator, having taught for over 30 years at the masters and doctoral levels at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Akron and West Virginia University. She is a clinical specialist in adult psychiatric mental-health nursing (CS), a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in Adult Primary Care (CRNP), and a Certified Advanced Holistic Nurse (AHN-BC).
She is currently active in many national nursing organizations. She was elected to the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and served a term as its Vice-Chair. She is an appointed member of the National Accreditation Review Committee of the Commission and a site evaluator. She also served on the Board of Director of the SREB Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing. She is an elected member of the National Academies of Practice in Nursing and was a founding member of the American Holistic Nursing Association.
Martin was honored in 1990 by the American Academy of Nursing when she was elected as a fellow. She also received the Distinguished Alumnus Award at the University of Pittsburgh in 1989, the Leadership in Nursing Award from Delta Omega Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau in 1990, and was made an Honorary Alumna at the University of Akron and College of Nursing in 1993. She received the Leadership Award from the Alpha Rho Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau in 1999, the District #5 (WVNA) Nursing Award in 2001 and the Local Legends Award (SON) in 2006.
Martin served on the editorial board of the Journal of Holistic Nursing and edited the Journal for four years. She currently serves on the editorial board of Perspectives in Psychiatric Care.
