Community Development Institute East (CDI)

Funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Small Flows Clearinghouse (NSFC) provides information about innovative, low-cost wastewater treatments for small communities with populations less than 10,000. Emphasis is placed on finding practical, alternative solutions for "small flows" wastewater problems. NSFC helps homeowners, renters, citizens' groups, local industry leaders, research scientists, educators, local and state government officials, consultants, manufacturers, operators and maintainers, contractors, and related professionals.

National Environmental Training Center for Small Communities (NETCSC)
NETCSC seeks to improve small community health. It does this by helping environmental trainers improve drinking water, wastewater, and solid waste services in small communities with populations less than 10,000. These trainers help environmental professionals in small communities develop skills and knowledge so they can better plan, manage, and operate environmental infrastructure.

National Mine Land Reclamation Center (NMLRC)
NMLRC provides programs that address reclamation issues for both abandoned and active mine sites. Their research includes acid mine drainage, prime farmland restoration, subsidence control, and groundwater purification. The center is committed to serving the needs of the mining industry and the public, as represented by the government regulatory agencies. Much of the mine land research must be subject to rigorous, large-scale field testing that requires the active participation and support of industry and regulatory agencies.
