W.E.B. Du Bois Fellowship
Dr. William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was born in 1868. He was educated at Fisk University and received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1896. Dr. Du Bois was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Pan-African Congress Movement. The author of many historical and analytical studies of American and African society, his example provides a standard of excellence for scholarship in any discipline and an especially inspiring model for black scholars. Because of the achievements of Dr. Du Bois, West Virginia University has named this fellowship program in his honor.
The W.E.B. Du Bois Fellowships are a means of advancing diversity among graduate and professional students on the West Virginia University campus. Such diversity is an institutional goal and contributes to the campus learning environment. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to be considered for the fellowship. Selection is competitive on the basis of academic merit and potential for success in graduate or professional study.
The W.E.B. Du Bois Fellowships provide a stipend of $15,000 annually plus remission of tuition and mandatory Special Fee Schedule A for students enrolled in General University graduate programs (excluding Health Sciences) for the academic year beginning August 16th and ending May 15th.

The deadline for submission of a Du Bois Fellowship
Application is March 1st of each academic Year.
Notification of Award will usually occur by April 1st.
