Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation - College of Business & Economics

The demand for forensic accountants and fraud investigators is growing. Federal, state, and local governmental agencies, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Offices of the Inspector General all have a need for accountants and others with forensic investigation skills. In the private sector, recent legislation and auditing standards require companies and their auditors to be more aggressive in detecting and preventing fraud. This increases the demand for forensic accountants and fraud investigators in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and in accounting firms. There are two paths that a student may take to earn the Certificate in Forensic Accounting & Fraud Investigation: Option 1 involves completion of a four course stand-alone certificate program curriculum while Option 2 involves completion of a Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) degree plus two additional certificate courses. In Option 1 students will complete four courses during summer sessions (two courses in each of two summer sessions). All four courses will be taught using actual and simulated case materials. One course, Advanced fraud Investigation, will include an integrative capstone experience using three case presentations/projects over the course of the semester.
