Gerontology - School of Medicine

The United States as well as countries around the globe are experiencing an unprecedented increase in their population of older adults. This dramatic demographic shift has already begun to affect our society and its impact will grow. Regardless of your intended career path, knowledge of aging and of the issues associated with serving older adults will be beneficial. The specialized training received through the Gerontology Certificate will enable individuals to assure that programs, products, and services are delivered in a fashion that is sensitive to the needs of the elderly. The Certificate program requires 15 graduate credits, including Fundamentals of Gerontology and nine elective credits. Three credits are devoted to a research project and paper as a capstone activity enabling students to link gerontology to their parent discipline.
