Women's Studies - Center for Women's Studies

The Women's Studies Graduate Certificate consists of 15 hours of graduate-level work in women's studies, using those courses that are approved by the women's studies curriculum committee as primary or component courses for the women's studies program. Component courses are those where at least one-third of the course content deals with women's or gender issues and where students have the option to focus assignments on women's or gender issues. Students must show that they did, in fact, focus their assignments in those areas for the course to count towards receiving this certificate. Students must design their program in conjunction with the Director of the Women's Studies program, who will serve as the primary advisor for certificate students. At the end of the certificate program students will make a major presentation in a capstone course. This will consist of an oral presentation that demonstrates the student's abilities to assess and evaluate information and to communicate that information to others in a meaningful way. Students also will be required to show their ability to lead a discussion based on their presentation and to facilitate the participation of others in the total class session.
