Assignment Process

When the assignment process begins, assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis based on the date your application and deposit are received. If you have requested a specific roommate and your roommate's application has been received by the deadline, we will do our best to match you with that person and assign a room based on your listed preferences AND what is available at the time. If you don't have a roommate preference, we will do our best to match you with a person who has indicated similar preferences. These preferences include campus location, building, neat vs. not neat, morning person vs. night person. Because we use this information to match you to a roommate, we encourage you to be honest when completing your application. We also recommend that students, not your parents, complete the application.

At all times, we do our best to match you with a person who has indicated similar preferences. However, it is not always possible to match students on all criteria. As the halls begin to fill and space becomes limited, we try to match students on as many listed criteria as possible. Remember to apply early to increase your chances of getting your preferences. If you apply late and find that you are matched with someone who does not share your joy of mornings or you don't like your location, don't despair. You can submit a written request to your Residence Hall Coordinator to change your location three weeks after the term begins. Room changes are subject to space availability and will not be made on the basis of race, national origin, religious affiliation, or sexual orientation.
