Staff

Main Desk

The main desk of each building is the central point of information for residents. Although the services at the main desk vary slightly from hall to hall, most desks handle guest registration, instructions on how to use the online work order (repair) request system, equipment check-out, temporary key dispersal, postings on upcoming events, information directories, certain deliveries to students, and the names and numbers of staff members on duty. Each desk is staffed by a full-time employee from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. After 4:00 p.m. weekdays and on the weekends, either RAs or Community Assistants will staff each desk. The telephone numbers are:

Resident Faculty Leaders

Resident Faculty Leaders (RFLs, a.k.a. "Riffles") live only steps away from their residence hall. They are an essential part of the First Year Experience at WVU. They share meal times with you, listen to your concerns, and offer academic advice. You may attend an opera, symphony, or ballet with your RFL; go to Washington, D.C; hike the Caperton Trail; visit Kennywood, an amusement park in Pittsburgh; or go to New York City and catch a play on Broadway. The RFLs are there to help you in whatever capacity they can.

Residence Hall Coordinators/Area Advisors

The Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC)/Area Advisor is a full-time Residential Education employee who supervises the RAs. They assume responsibility for making sure residential needs, in terms of quality of life in the hall and so forth, are met. They make sure that your building is quiet when it needs to be, and they oversee student conduct (policies, rules, and regulations) in your hall. RHCs/AAs are trained in counseling, safety and security, student development and conduct, and emergency response. They are here to help ensure that your residence hall experience is positive and enriching.

Resident Assistants/Resident Tutors

Resident Assistants (RAs) and Resident Tutors (RTs) are some of the first people you will meet. RAs/RTs are students who have been carefully selected and specially trained to help you and your floor-mates learn more about the University, each other, and yourselves. RAs/RTsare not police officers or parents. They are valuable people who are well informed and who care about you! Whenever you have questions about academic concerns, your hall, or you just want to talk, try your RA/RT first.

Since your RA/RT is a full-time student, you may occasionally find that she/he is difficult to reach, especially during the daytime hours. Should you need assistance and no one is available, stop by or call your Main Desk. The Main Desks are staffed 24 hours a day by full-time staff, RAs/RTs, or night staff, depending upon the time of the day. Desk staff will be able to inform you of staff members availability.

Night Staff

The Night Staff are also very good resources. They assist the live-in staff by securing the residence halls and responding to policy violations and emergency situations. You will see them checking identification, staffing the Main Desk, and circulating in and around the residence halls between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
