Building on a strong tradition of journalistic principles, the WVU Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism’s undergraduate programs are at the cutting edge of journalism education.
In an academically challenging and student-centered atmosphere, the School offers innovative student projects and real-world opportunities that prepare students for careers in 21st century mass communications.
Journalism students learn by doing, using state-of-the-art equipment and the industry’s latest media technology. In addition, community outreach and service learning are incorporated into our students’ overall educational experience.

Degree Programs in the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism
In the Broadcast News sequence, students learn how to report, write and produce news stories and programs for the electronic media using state-of-the-art digital equipment and technology. Students produce a bi-weekly newscast, “WVU News,” that airs statewide on West Virginia Public Television. The News-Editorial major ensures that students know how to write, report, edit and design for newspapers and other print publications. Students gain real-world experience through internships throughout the state and region. The Public Relations major offers challenging opportunities to develop media campaigns and plan events for nonprofit organizations and private firms. While focusing on public relations, students also receive a solid education in writing, research, interviewing skills and media analysis. The P.I. Reed School of Journalism offers two graduate degree programs: The School of Journalism also offers a variety of summer school classes and online programs to both major and non-major students.

The School of Journalism’s undergraduate programs are fully accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. West Virginia University is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
