WVU Undergraduate Student Philosophy Conference

The first annual WVU National Undergraduate Student Philosophy Conference was created and organized by a group of Philosophy Department undergraduate students and was held this past spring (2007). Because our first conference was such a success, we will be organizing and holding the second annual WVU National Undergraduate Student Philosophy Conference in the spring of 2008. Leading up to the conference was a call for the submission of undergraduate philosophy papers on a national scale. After we received all of the submissions, they were reviewed by a student panel, and four were chosen to be presented at our conference. In response to each of the four chosen papers, a WVU Philosophy student wrote a response paper, also to be presented at the conference, by evaluating the paper’s argument(s) and posing questions for the paper’s author.

The WVU Undergraduate Students and Faculty were joined by the four presenters, who traveled in from various colleges for our conference, and also joined by a wonderful Keynote Speaker, Dr. Michael McKenna. Our own undergraduate students were able to meet, talk with, and learn from those students traveling to our university. Organizing and participating in the conference was a wholly rewarding experience. If you are interested in helping to organize the second annual conference, please contact Raquel Spencer, or if you are interested in submitting your philosophy work, please continue to the check the website for more updates!
