WVUATA EVENTS

WVUATA Meeting

The last WVUATA meeting of the 2007-2008 school year

was held on April 9th at 8:00pm in the Athletic Training classroom.

At this meeting new officers were voted into office for the 2008-2009 school year.

President - Kelly Evonovich

Treasurer - Kate Goeler

Webmaster - Kari Williams

 

National Athletic Training Month

The month of March is dedicated to the athletic training profession.

This Year's (2007-2008) theme is "Who's Taking Care of Your Kids?"

Certified athletic trainers are allied health care professionals

who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and

rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses.

WVATA Meeting

The WVATA meeting was held at

West Virginia Wesleyan College

in Buckhannon, WV on April 12, 2009.

This meeting consisted of lectures by

Othopedic Surgeons, Certified Athletic Trainers,

and Presentations given by various Athletic Training students

from West Virginia Wesleyan College, West Virginia University, and Marshall University.

There was also a quiz bowl that was participated in by 3 teams of 4 students each.

The WVU quiz bowl team were the winners.

This team consisted of Kari Williams, Kevin Boss, Adrian Western, and Derek DeProspero.

Along with the quiz bowl win, we also had other staff and students honored.

Kevin Kotsko, head shell athletic training room ATC, was awarded the

West Virginia Athletic Trainer of the Year award.

Trevor Jones and Maggie Krauza,

along with the staff ATC's at Morgantown High school,

were selected as the Public Relations Contest Winners

for their participation in National Athletic Training Month.

Ashley Nonemaker also won the Student Poster Contest.

 

The 9th Annual WVUATA Golf Tournament

May 3, 2009

Registration will begin at 8:30 am and tee off is scheduled for 9:00 am

at the Mountaineer Golf Course in Morgantown, WV.

This event is a four person scramble.

The cost is $50 per golfer which will include

green fees, a cart, a gift bag, and a picnic lunch.

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams

as well as the winners of the closest to the pin,

longest putt, and longest drive contests.

 

WVUATA Family Picnic

The WVUATA family picnic will be held at Cooper's Rock State Park

for the families of WVU Athletic Training Students.

The start time of the picnic will be 2:00 pm.

Following the picnic will be a Senior Tribute Video.

Mandie Neal - OT Masters program at Shenandoah Univeristy in Virginia

Ashley Nonemaker - Physical Therapy school

Marcell Valentine - Working the New York Giants Training Camp

Melissa Vento - GA position at Alvernia College in Pennsylvania

Adrian Western - GA position at Ithica College in New York

NFL Internships

We have 3 students this year that have been accepted to work as Interns for the summer for 3 different NFL teams. \

Sara Talarico will be working for the Pittsburg Steelers.

Takeshi Kojima will be working with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Trevor Jones will be working for the Clevland Browns.
