The Masters of Science degree in Athletic training is completed over a two-year period, although a one-year option is available. Those in the two-year program (including a summer course) complete 40 hours of graduate coursework, which includes an individual research project or thesis. The one-year program requires completion of 35 graduate credit hours.
Graduate assistantships are available with WVU athletics (football, volleyball/crew, tennis/cheerleading, men's soccer/swimming, baseball/track & field), local universities (Waynesburg University, Fairmont State University), local high schools (A-AAA in West Virginia and A-AAA in Pennsylvania) and club sports/intramurals for qualified individuals only in the two-year program. Assistantships provide a stipend of approximately $10,008-$13,344 depending on the GA assignments. In addition, a tuition waiver is available for the academic year and Summer ll session (between your first and second years). The tuition waiver only covers tuition. The student is responsible for special fees. The selection process for assistantships begins in January and continues until all positions are filled. Only those applicants who have been admitted to the Graduate Athletic Training program will be considered for an on-campus personal interview in late January to early February.
