Dana Brooks is a professor and Dean of the School of Physical Education at West Virginia University. He received the B.S. from Towson State University (1973), and M.S. (1976) and Ed.D. (1979) from West Virginia University. He has published and presented nationally and internationally in the areas of sport sociology and sport social psychology. He is the co-author of Racism in College Athletics: The African American Experience. Dr. Brooks served as chairperson of the following West Virginia University Committees/Councils: West Virginia University=s Athletic Council, Black Community Concerns, Social Justice Council, Affirmative Action. In additional, he serviced as Minority Recruitment Coordinator, Office of the Provost. He was also a member of a special task force to review the feasibility of a student-athlete academic learning center. In addition, he served as Minority Recruitment Coordinator in the Office of the Provost. He is project administrator for the National Youth Sport Program at West Virginia University. Dr. Brooks is a member of the North American Society for Sport Sociology and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He received the Dean=s Recognition Award from the College of Health Professions, Towson University Alumni Association, in 1999; received the Martin Luther King, Jr., Achievement Award from the WVU Center for Black Culture and Research; and the WVU Social Justice Award. Dr. Brooks was also inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education in September 1999.
