The International Center for Performance Excellence, under the Dean’s office of West Virginia University, School of Physical Education, is recruiting for the position of Director. The Director will be responsible for the overall management of the center, including acquiring and marketing oversight of academic and scholarly reference books, trade books and academic journal publications; assist in facilitation of international faculty and student exchanges, and the furthering of the internationalization of curricula within the School of Physical Education. Director will participate in academic education conferences to showcase publishing products. Some travel will be involved. Director will identify and write grants and contracts to further the Center’s mission.
The Director will oversee the operating budget, supervise all staff that includes hiring and performing annual evaluations, and maintain liaison with Expert Business Office regarding financial position, cash flows, accounts, budgets, and related financial matters. The Director will report directly to the Office of the Dean of the School of Physical Education.
Candidates should have a graduate degree in the sport and exercise sciences or allied discipline and/or in a business-related discipline and at least 3 years of experience in managing or directing others in academic or scholarly publishing. Successful candidates should demonstrate a full comprehension of the issues concerning peer review, academic textbook acquisitions versus trade book acquisition, the need for contacts with a variety of potential authors, and a collaborative role of publishing in fostering the internationalization of academic curricula.
