About Choosy

Choosy™ is a character who encourages healthy decision-making from all of us. When children are very small, adults make decisions on their behalf. As children move into elementary school, they begin to make more of their own decisions until, in adolescence, they make very critical decisions about friends, drug, alcohol and tobacco use, nutrition, and physical activity.

Choosy recognizes that choice empowers children, and determines how adults will conduct their lives. Choosy encourages parents to make healthy decisions for their children. School administrators, politicians, and community leaders are encouraged by Choosy to make decisions, on behalf of children, which will enhance their health and promote increased levels of physical activity.

The Choosy Kids Club at West Virginia University is an after-school program for elementary school children from a tri county area. The Club House is staffed by WVU students. Active lifestyles based on healthy decisions is the theme of the program, and Choosy is the featured mascot. In fact, Choosy is the ambassador of children’s fitness in West Virginia.

Choosy is very particular about nutrition, physical activity, and remaining tobacco and drug free. As a role model, Choosy sets a good example for grownups and children. The message is simple: children should develop by choice not by chance.
