West Virginia University Teacher Evaluation System (WVUTES)

Dr. Wiegand has made the application of WVUTES a prerequisite for the summer 2003 seminar.

This is the observation system that Dr. Hawkins & Tom Sharpe developed, it is set up to standardize the observation of our student teachers, a primary role of the graduate assistants here at WVU.  Because it is behavioral in nature the initial training procedure takes a SAFMEDS structure.

Picking up where Dr. Hawkins' Behavioral Seminar left off we are now being exposed to the SAFMEDS procedure by using it to learn WEVUTES.

STEP 1:  Make a deck of study flash cards VERBATIM from the Training Power Point

To review SAFMEDS stands for Say All Fast Minute Each Day Shuffle

MEMORIZE ALL TERMS UNTIL YOU CAN REPEAT THEM EXACTLY AS THEY APPEAR ON THE CARDS, VERBALLY UNDER 2 minutes!

(Hardest Part)
STEP 2:  Come to the office (288 Coliseum) and ask to take the Verbal portion of the exam

You must correctly say all terms & definitions, excluding lesson
preview, body, & closure with a success rate greater than 80 %

              UNDER 2 minutes!
.

Step 3:  Complete the written portion of the exam

Step 4:  Perform the Practical portion of observation off of a video taped lesson.

If you have more questions please contact Dr. Wiegand, Rachel, Tony or Scott
It is his expectation that everyone will come to class prepared to do some actual field work using WVUTES.
Dr. Wiegand will be leaving for two weeks prior to our seminar, so ask him any questions immediately!
