About Morgantown
Morgantown is a thriving college community in the great state of West Virginia. Approximately 80,000 people live within a 10-mile radius of Morgantown (not including West Virginia University students). Morgantown is nestled at the foot of the scenic Allegheny mountains, and was recently voted the #1 small town in America. Snow skiing, golf, water skiing, hiking and backpacking, white water rafting, tennis, and biking are some of the many sport and recreational activities available. Recently, a rails-to-trails bike network was completed along the scenic Monongahela river bordering Morgantown. Mountaineer football fans get to enjoy watching their home team in a state-of-the-art 70,000-seat football arena. Basketball fans enjoy watching West Virginia University compete in a modern 15,000-seat Coliseum. (The Coliseum also houses the Sport and Exercise Psychology Program.) Theater and other cultural activities abound. Morgantown has been rated highly as one of the most livable communities in the United States. The quality of life for Morgantown residents is outstanding.
Housing
We recommend you begin your apartment or house search at least two months before registration. If you have a pet, you may have a more difficult time finding housing. Feel free to email Sam Zizzi, Program Coordinator, if you are interested in staying with one of our graduate students for a few days while you locate housing. Dr. Zizzi will send an email announcement to all students in the doctoral program seeking their assistance.
Here are some tips on finding housing within the Morgantown community
1. Check out the website for the local Morgantown newspaper, The Dominion Post, and then locate the classified ads for houses or apartments for rent.
2. Check out the off-campus housing listings with the Office of Student Life at the University.
Utilities and Services
We suggest that you contact the utility companies as soon as possible to have your service started. A huge backlog occurs in August, and waiting may result in not having the service when you need it.

Parking
One of the benefits of being a student in the sport and exercise psychology doctoral program is that parking is FREE for many of your classes since these classes are held at the Coliseum. However, parking at Allen Hall (for counseling classes) or on the downtown campus at the Life Science Building (for psychology classes), for example, can be very difficult and costly. One excellent way to commute across campus is by taking a ride on the unique WVU Personal Rapid Transit System (PRT), or by using buses.
