PhD in Kinesiology - Sport and Exercise Psychology Major

Graduate Student Club

The West Virginia University Graduate Student Sport Psychology Club provides graduate students in the program a chance to develop personal and professional relationships with other graduate students and faculty members at West Virginia University. These relationships serve three purposes: (1) to increase student’s general knowledge of sport and exercise psychology, (2) to provide students a chance to develop better working relationships with others in this dynamic field, and (3) to provide a more relaxed atmosphere for the busy graduate student.

In addition, faculty members often approach the students within the club to help with various research studies they are performing during the year. The members gather regularly outside of classes on a social basis, such as for a skiing trip. Social gatherings are held at professors’ homes during Christmas and the end of the year. This helps to create a "family" atmosphere within the program. The important message we try to create for graduate students in the graduate program at West Virginia University is that they are part of a team. Rather than attending graduate school as an isolated student, the Sport Psychology Graduate Student Club serves to create a sense of personal and professional collegiality among graduate students.

Each year in the spring, the faculty honor one student as the Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year. The selection criteria for this award is based on overall performance during the last year using the following criteria: 1) service to the university; 2) service to the profession; 3) presentations; and 4) publications.
