Overview

Undergraduate students interested in learning more about the science of behavior and its applications will find a broad array of courses in psychology. Students who elect to major in psychology can take advantage of opportunities to take specialized courses, to assist with faculty and graduate student research, to participate in field experiences in community agencies, and to become involved in the life of the department.

We offer programs of study leading to the Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis, Clinical Psychology, Clinical Child Psychology, and Life-Span Developmental Psychology. We also offer a small professional master's degree program in Clinical Psychology. We are proud of our junior colleague model of graduate training, whereby we incorporate the professional training of graduate students into the many research, teaching, and service activities of the department with the goal of training independent scholars, teachers, and practitioners.

Our faculty are internationally reknowned researchers, acclaimed teachers, and dedicated service providers. Two faculty members have recently received awards for their work related to the training of graduate students (Barry Edelstein received the 2002 Distinguished Clinical Mentorship Award from APA Division 12, Section 2, and Daniel McNeil received the 1999 APAGS Raymond D. Fowler Award, presented annually to a psychologist who has made outstanding contributions to the professional development of students). The Clinical Program has been fully accredited for 7 years (the highest possible outcome) by the APA and received an award in 2001 from the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy for outstanding clinical training. The Association for Behavior Analysis recently accredited the Behavior Analysis program and selected it as the outstanding training program in 2004. The Department of Psychology was named the 2003 recipient of the Award for Enduring Programmatic Contributions to Behavior Analysis by the Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis (SABA).
