Overview
Dear prospective applicant,
Thank you for your interest in graduate study in the Department of Psychology at West Virginia University. Here you will find materials describing our Doctoral, Clinical Professional Master's and Applied Behavior Analysis Master's programs together with forms and information necessary for completing your application.
Each year several hundred people apply to our graduate programs, but only about four are accepted into each program. We thoroughly review each application to determine the best match between each applicant's qualifications and interests and the training opportunities we offer. Recently, the students who have been accepted have total verbal and quantitative scores that range from 1000 to 1400 on the GRE, cumulative grade-point averages that range from 3.00 to 4.00, and relevant experiences and interests that are compatible with those of program area faculty.
Please carefully read our program descriptions. If our program interests you, complete and submit the forms to the address listed on the applications by December 15 for the doctoral program and March 1 for the Master's programs (although late applications will also be considered).
I suggest you begin the application process early. Your application will be reviewed by the appropriate program area admissions committee, composed of faculty and graduate student representatives. Doctoral applicants who pass an initial screening will be invited to attend the Department's Interview Weekend, which will be held by the end of February 2008. Applicants for Master's programs will be interviewed in late spring. Applicants will be informed of acceptance or wait-listing no later than April 1 and rejection somewhat later. All applicants are automatically considered for financial aid in the form of graduate assistantships and in the past all of our students have received financial aid.
