Information and Procedure for Applying to the Graduate Program

The Department of Psychology accepts only degree candidates and not "special students." Unfortunately, the nature of our graduate program does not allow for nondegree-seeking students in many of our courses. We urge you to plan to enter as a full-time student and remain in residence for the duration of your academic work. Students are generally not able to transfer from one program to another once they are accepted into the department.Normally, stipends and assistantships are awarded by the department on the basis of merit, need, and available skills. All doctoral students are provided financial support. Students in the Professional Master's (PMA) in Clinical Psychology program are not automatically provided with financial assistance, although support may sometimes be available. NO SEPARATE APPLICATIONS need to be filed for department-based financial assistance. Contact the Financial Aid Office for information concerning student loans or other forms of financial assistance. To help facilitate the application procedure we are including the following checklist of materials that should be sent to us. Please note that the deadline for receipt of all application materials for the doctoral programs is December 15, and the terminal professional Master's is March 1.For more information on the Department of Psychology, West Virginia University, and Morgantown WV, please visit the Department of Psychology page for Prospective Graduate Students.
