The WVU Academic Partnership Program for Minority Teaching Fellows is a partnership between WVU, state colleges and the Office of the Chancellor that provides semester long teaching appointments at West Virginia State Colleges for WVU minority doctoral students. WVU views this program an important to participating doctoral student development and to the enrichment of the state colleges, and addition to one of its obligations as the stae's only lnd-grant research university in the state.

Important characteristics of the program include the following:

• Minority Doctoral Students serve as visiting faculty during one or more semesters at one of the participating colleges.
• Teaching fellows receive a stipend and travel expenses for teaching, typically two three-hour courses.
• Larry Stead , a WVU faculty member, serves as the faculty leader. He mentors teaching fellows as well as facilitates communication between the various partners.
• State colleges establish courses and schedules in collaboration with the teaching fellows and the faculty leader;
• Teaching fellows are responsible for upholding the academic standards of the host institution and fulfilling the duties of a visiting faculty member.
