Dialogues of the Carmelites
Opera by Francis Poulenc (in English)

First performed in 1957 at la Scala in Milan, this three-act lyric tragedy centers on a young aristocratic woman named Blanche de la Force who seeks refuge in a convent during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. The turbulence of the outside world follows her there and she and her Carmelite sisters become engulfed in the events of history. Featuring new voice faculty member Rebecca Turner as the Mother Superior—Madame Lidoine. Don’t miss this show, which is considered one of the masterpieces of 20th century opera!

The Tempest
By William Shakespeare

Magic, fairies and a Duke’s banished court provide the background for the enchanted island of Prospero, Ariel and the fated young lovers Ferdinand and Miranda. Throw in a shipwreck, some physical comedy and a little intrigue and you have one of Shakespeare’s most touching plays. Enter the world of this classic comedy/drama and welcome our participating guest artists from the Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg, W.Va.

Bat Boy: The Musical
Story and Book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming
Music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe

Direct from the pages of Weekly World News, Bat Boy is a “comedic/horror romp” about a half boy/half bat creature who is discovered in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia. Brought to the home of the town veterinarian, he is accepted by the family, learns to behave “normally,” and falls tragically in love with the vet’s teenage daughter. Or is it so tragic? See what happens when bat/boy meets vet/babe!

These presentations begin prior to the show at 12:30 p.m. Meet the people behind the scenes, tour backstage, and visit the shops where lighting, sound, scenery, props, and costumes are created. Don’t miss this opportunity to see how we make magic out of the most ordinary objects. All presentations will begin in the lobby of the Gladys G. Davis Theatre, except the presentation for the Dance Concert, which will begin in the lobby of the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.
