The Center for Women's Studies, with the support of our visiting committee, has started a mentoring program for our women's studies minors and certificate students. We need your help to make this the valuable program our students wish to see - and which we wish to provide for them. You can help by volunteering to be a mentor. Then, we will include your information in a password-protected database on our women's studies website.
When students are seeking mentors, they can go to this database and contact you for assistance. Our students have many interests - they want to know what lies ahead in a particular career, they also want to know the challenges and rewards of being a feminist in your career, how to combine feminism and community volunteer work, how to combine having a family and a career, what graduate or professional school is like, how to be a non-traditional student, etc., etc.
The students are not particularly interested in being paired with a specific mentor. They are more interested in being able to ask questions as they have them, so you may only hear from someone a few times. Most likely, they will contact people by e-mail, if you have access to e-mail. If not, they may call or write or stop by to visit if you live near Morgantown - or near their home town. They know that you are busy - so are they - and that you may not, at any specific time, be able to help that particular student. That's okay.
Can we count on your assistance? Or do you have friends and colleagues who might be able to help us? If so, please complete the from below and return it to us. Just print out this form, fill it out and drop it in the mail. Or, if you prefer, fax it to us at 304-293-3041 or send the information in an e-mail message to barbara.howe@mail.wvu.edu. We hope to keep this program going for quite some time, so, if you cannot help now, please keep us in mind for the future. And thanks, as always, for your interest in our work and your support of our goals - that means a great deal to us and to our students. If you have questions, please contact Barb Howe by e-mail or by phone at 304-293-2339 ext. 1155. Thank you!!
