UNIVERSITY KEY CONTROL POLICY

PURPOSE

To maximize the safety of personnel and protection of property by controlling the mechanical and electronic keys that provide access to University rooms and buildings.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all University faculty, staff, and students who work in University owned facilities with locks maintained by the Physical Plant Lock Shop. For purposes of this policy leased space with locks maintained by the Physical Plant Lock Shop is considered to be a University facility.

POLICY

Mechanical keys, and authorization to access via electronic locks, shall be issued only to faculty, staff, and students of the University. Issuance control shall be through a procedure that utilizes the Building Supervisor or Key Control Officer at each building.

PROCEDURE

The Associate Vice President for Facilities and Services will be responsible for procedure development.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION

The responsibility for implementation of this policy rests with the Associate Vice President for Facilities and Services, at 293-7202 or P.O. Box 6555, who is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Associate Vice President for Facilities and Services.
