ABRASIVE WHEEL (GRINDERS) OPERATIONS POLICY
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with OSHAs Abrasive Wheel (Grinders) Machinery regulation 29 CFR 1910.215 and worker safety when operating abrasive wheel machinery.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all departments that have or use any of the various types of abrasive wheel machinery (grinders), including those on the regional campuses.
POLICY
West Virginia University personnel who operate Abrasive Wheel Machinery shall be protected from the hazards associated with this equipment by ensuring that all guards are in place and properly adjusted.
PROCEDURE
Procedure development for safety training rests with Environmental Health and Safety. Procedure development for maintenance, repair, and usage rests with the West Virginia University Physical Plants (Main Physical Plant, Health Sciences Physical Plant, and Housing & Residence Life Maintenance/Housekeeping).
RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION
All employees are charged with providing full support to this policy. It is the responsibility of the Dean or Director to implement and maintain this policy within their college, department, or unit. The Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 293-3792 or P.O. Box 6551, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION
The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, West Virginia University.
