ASBESTOS MANAGEMENT POLICY
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1926.1101, 40 CFR 761 Subpart M, and West Virginia Title 64 Series 63 and protect the health and safety of students, employees, visitors, and outside contractor personnel.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all University employees and outside contractors engaged in asbestos remediation activities at any location on WVU property or involving such spaces under the substantial control of WVU, including those on the regional campuses.
POLICY
West Virginia University personnel and outside contractors will implement the procedures outlined in the Asbestos Operations Manual and the building specific Operation and Maintenance Manual when performing activities related to asbestos identification and/or remediation in University facilities, including those on the regional campuses.
PROCEDURE
Procedure development rests with Environmental Health and Safety as outlined in the Asbestos Operations Manual.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION
All employees are charged with providing full support to this policy. It is the responsibility of the Dean or Director to implement and maintain this policy within their college, department, or unit. The Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 293-3792 or P.O. Box 6551, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION
The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, West Virginia University
