The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1910.38 and provide a coordinated response to emergency situations of varying magnitudes that can impact the health and safety of West Virginia University and the related community members.

The scope of this policy is limited to those emergencies that require the assistance of internal units and/or emergency6responders from outside the WVU campus. The Emergency Response Plan is site specific and should be developed by each campus to meet their needs in time of emergency.

Emergency response to conditions that are a threat to life, health, and/or property in West Virginia University and the surrounding community will be coordinated through the West Virginia University Emergency Response Plan.

Procedure development rests with Environmental Health and Safety as outlined in the WVU Emergency Response Plan.

All employees are charged with providing full support to this policy. It is the responsibility of the Dean or Director to implement and maintain this policy within their college, department, or unit. The Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 293-3792 or P.O. Box 6551, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, West Virginia University
