HAZARDOUS MATERIALS STORAGE AND PROCUREMENT POLICY

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with 40 CFR 260-268 and that proper handling and storage of hazardous materials is conducted at all WVU facilities.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all areas using hazardous materials, including those on the regional campuses.

POLICY

West Virginia University personnel will take appropriate measures to protect all faculty, staff, students, and visitors from any exposure to hazardous materials. No employee shall engage in or be required to perform any task involving hazardous materials which is determined to be unsafe or unreasonably hazardous.

PROCEDURE

Procedure development rests with Environmental Health and Safety as outlined in the Hazardous Materials Management Program.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION

All employees are charged with providing full support to this policy. It is the responsibility of the Dean or Director to implement and maintain this policy within their college, department, or unit. The Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 293-3792 or P.O. Box 6551, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, West Virginia University.
