LEAD BASED PAINT AND PARTICULATE MANAGEMENT POLICY
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1926.62 and prevent or minimize faculty, staff, student, and visitor exposures to lead (Pb) particulate (i.e. dust, fumes).
SCOPE
This policy applies to all University employees engaged in lead remediation activities at any location on WVU property or involving such spaces under the substantial control of WVU, including those on the regional campuses.
POLICY
West Virginia University personnel and outside contractors will implement procedures to reduce potential exposure of faculty, staff, and students to lead particulates when performing activities related to lead identification and/or remediation in University facilities as outlined in Federal and State regulations. In addition, West Virginia University personnel employed in the rennovation or abatement of lead painted surfaces will be provided medical monitoring and training as required by Federal and State regulations.
PROCEDURE
Procedure development and certification acquisition rests with the West Virginia University departments who have personnel performing lead based paint and particulate management activities.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION
All employees are charged with providing full support to this policy. It is the responsibility of the Dean or Director to implement and maintain this policy within their college, department, or unit. The Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 293-3792 or P.O. Box 6551, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION
The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, West Virginia University.
