PERMIT REQUIRED CONFINED SPACE POLICYPURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1910.146 and protect the health and safety of West Virginia University (WVU) employees and outside contractor personnel conducting permit required confined space operations.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all University employees and contractor personnel engaged in permit required confined space operations at any location on WVU property or involving such spaces under substantial control of WVU, including those on the regional campuses.
POLICY
West Virginia University personnel and outside contractors will implement written permit required confined space programs for all work performed in designated permit required confined spaces.
PROCEDURE
Procedure development rests with Environmental Health and Safety as outlined in the Permit Required Confined Space Program.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION
All employees are charged with providing full support to this policy. It is the responsibility of the Dean or Director to implement and maintain this policy within their college, department, or unit. The Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 293-3792 or P.O. Box 6551, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION
The Responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, West Virginia University.
