PLANS REVIEW POLICY

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with NFPA Codes, West Virginia State Fire Code, and provide plans review for West Virginia University alteration, renovation and construction projects that effect life safety, fire safety and risk management issues in compliance with prevailing building codes.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all University owned facilities, including those on the regional campuses.

POLICY

All plans for new construction, renovation and/or alteration will be reviewed and approved by the appropriate WVU units and regulatory agencies prior to construction.

PROCEDURE

Procedure development rests with units involved in new construction, renovation and/or alterations projects.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION

All employees are charged with providing full support to this policy. It is the responsibility of the Dean or Director to implement and maintain this policy within their college, department, or unit. The Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 293-3792 or P.O. Box 651, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, West Virginia University.
