The purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with the 40 CFR 280 and establish minimum requirements for owners and operators of UST’s used to contain regulated substances.

This policy applies to all University departments that use UST’s for the storage of regulated substances, including those on the regional campuses.

West Virginia University will establish and provide guidelines for compliance with the EPA technical and financial requirements regarding underground storage tanks.

Procedure development rests with Environmental Health and Safety as outlined in the Underground Storage Tank Management Plan.

All employees are charged with providing full support to this policy. It is the responsibility of the Dean or Director to implement and maintain this policy within their college, department, or unit. The Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 293-3792 or P.O. Box 6551, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office, West Virginia University.
