FIRE SUPPRESSION AND PROTECTION SERVICE POLICY
PURPOSE
To maintain WVU fire suppression, alarm and protection equipment in optimum condition.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all University faculty, staff, and students who work in WVU facilities that are maintained by the Physical Plant.
POLICY
Physical Plant maintains, services, and responds to all actions regarding fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and other associated fire suppression systems, based on practices and policies outlined in federal, state, and University guidelines established by WVU Department of Environmental Health and Safety. Only qualified personnel are authorized to perform maintenance, adjust or modify fire suppression or alarm equipment. Problems can be reported by contacting the Physical Plant Help Desk at 293-4357.
PROCEDURE
The Directors of Physical Plant and the WVU Department of Environmental Health and Safety will be jointly responsible for procedure development.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION
The responsibility for implementation of this policy rests with the Resource Management section of the Physical Plant, WVU Department of Environmental Health and Safety, and WVU Deans/Directors/Chairpersons and Building Supervisor(s). Physical Plant, at 293-4357 or P.O. Box 6570, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION
The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Physical Plant.
