UNIVERSITY KEY CONTROL POLICY

PURPOSE

To provide a specific system and control plan for each building of the University as well as to ensure the use of procedures that are outlined in the West Virginia University Key Control Procedures.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all University faculty, staff, and students who work in WVU facilities that are maintained by the Physical Plant and the WVU Morgantown Campuses maintained by the Department of Public Safety and Transportation Services.

POLICY

The Key Control Policy, as outlined in this policy, pertains to all campuses of the University.

Building keys will only be issued to employees of the Institution. Requests from other sources must be coordinated through the appropriate WVU Building Supervisor(s)/Key Control Officer and approved by the appropriate Vice President, or designee, and the Director of Public Safety and Transportation Services.

PROCEDURE

The Directors of the Physical Plant and Public Safety and Transportation Services will be jointly responsible for procedure development.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION

The responsibility for implementation of this policy rests with WVU Building Supervisor(s)/Key Control Officers and the Resource Management section of the Physical Plant. Physical Plant, at 293-4357 or P.O. Box 6570, is available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of the Physical Plant.
