YEARS OF SERVICE FOR ANNUAL LEAVE ACCRUAL POLICY

PURPOSE

To outline the means by which West Virginia University determines years of service for annual leave accrual rates in accordance with WV Board of Trustees Classified Employees Handbook and WV Board of Trustees Series 35.

SCOPE

All full-time regular, benefit eligible, classified, non-classified, faculty equivalent/academic professional (FE/AP), and faculty employees at West Virginia University, including those on the regional campuses, are covered under this policy.

POLICY

Full-time regular employees are eligible to accrue annual leave immediately upon initiation of service. Accrual rates vary according to occupational category and/or years of service, and are prorated according to the employee’s FTE. Non-classified employees, FE/AP and faculty with twelve-month contracts have a fixed annual leave accrual rate of regardless of years of service. Years of service for annual leave accrual rates of classified employees is based upon accumulative years of service, as a full-time regular employee, with the State of WV; time is prorated according position(s) FTE; and, time off payroll is not included.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION

The appropriate personnel in the Department of Human Resources are responsible for administering this policy. The Benefits and Employee Relations Unit in the Department of Human Resources, at 293-5700 or P.O. Box 6640, are available to answer questions or provide additional information regarding this policy.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INTERPRETATION

The responsibility for interpretation of this policy rests with the Director of Human Resources, West Virginia University.
