Formic acid in punched pavatex plastic plates.--Apilife Var = thyme (76%), eucalyptol, camphor and menthol--in a tablet form--placed on brood frames at mid-August for 3-4 weeks, then tablet replaced with a fresh one for 3-4 weeks. During the treatment, essential oil components accumulate in the wax--a good deal evaporates after the treatment. In honey, residues are mostly in the range of 0.1 to 0.2 mgkg. Concentrations above 1.1 mgkg alter honey taste; from point of view of human toxicology, these residues are not important. Pure thyme is applied in the same way as Apilife VAR--15 g of thyme dissolved in approx. 20 cc of ethanol and poured on a viscose sponge. After the alcohol evaporates, the sponge is put on the brood combs as in Apilife VAR. Switzerland]
