Special Interest Groups

We have a lot of fun in our various interest groups (listed below). Each group coordinates its own activities and members can belong to as many groups as they wish. If you would like to join the WVU Campus Club, please contact our Membership Chair, Sandra Putnam, sputnam@socialsolutions.biz. If you would like to know more about a specific interest group, contact one of our Special Interest Group Coordinator, Connie Stead, 304-296-5516, conniestead@worldnet.att.net.

On-going and New Groups:

About the Groups:

Book Groups
We have 2 book groups that read and discuss paperback books. One group meets at 10am on the 3rd Tuesday of the Month, the other is an evening group that has a more flexible schedule. Both meet in members homes but there is no obligation to host.

Bridge
This group is for experienced bridge players. Once a month we meet and compete. We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 12:30 PM at a local restaurant for lunch and bridge until 4 PM. Lunch is Dutch. If you think you may want to join but are not sure of your level, you are welcome to come and observe. In our dreams we bid seven no trump and make it!

Morning Coffee Group
The Campus Club Coffee Group meets on the third Thursday of each month either at the home of a member or at a restaurant. It usually meets at 9:30 A.M.; 10:00 A.M., if it is at a private home. This is a fun group of 17 members (2002) that meets to enjoy one another's company. It is a great way to get to know some new people.

"Not Quite" Gourmet Dinner Group
The "Not Quite" Gourmet Dinner Group is a group of approximately 40 couples and singles, all of whom enjoy good food and good company. There are four dinners, a January brunch, a June picnic, and an October Wine and Hors d'oeuvres party. The menus for the year with recipes, organized by the menu committee, are distributed in October.

Dinners are usually 8 to 10 people, randomly assigned to host homes by the coordinating committee. Members choose which months they prefer to host. The host provides the entree and guests are responsible for one menu item. The cost of the dinner is then divided among those attending.

Dinners are at 7 on Saturday evenings. The picnic and Hors d'oeuvres party are at 4 on Sundays. Attendance at any event is optional. The Gourmet Group is a wonderful opportunity for those new to Morgantown and the University to meet others and to add great recipes to your recipe file.

Moms Group
The Moms Group is an opportunity for moms of young children to socialize and share ideas with one another about things to do with children in the Morgantown area, parenting, and other topics that we find interesting or fun. It is also a great environment to introduce your children to new friends. We meet once a month at a time convenient for the participants.

Quilting
The Quilters include those who make quilts, who are interested in learning how to make quilts, and those who just want to learn more about quilts. They meet on the 3rd Wed. of each month (2nd Wed. in November and December) at the Village at Heritage Point. There are approximately 20 members in this group (2002).

Movie Group
This group is for members who love going to the movies (especially those 'chick-flicks' that husbands hate), and do not want to go alone. One evening a month will be designated as movie night, usually at the Warner Theatre. On that evening members show up and watch the movie with their friends. Afterwards is social time at a nearby restaurant.

Hiking & Outdoor Group
This group focuses on outdoor activities. We start off with a "gentle" walking adventure on a Saturday or Sunday in the fall, and future activities are scheduled according to participants' interests. Possibilities are more walks, hikes, cross country skiing in the winter, and biking in the spring. It all depends on your ideas and preferences! The level of activity will also depend on the members. Midweek get-togethers are possible. Some locales are the Cheat Lake Trail, Coopers Rock, Chestnut Ridge Park, Caperton Trail and the Decker Creek Trail. You can always count on a social food stop after the activity!

Road Trip Dining
This group is for those who enjoy trying new restaurants outside of Morgantown. The group coordinator selects a restaurant somewhere outside of Morgantown and members meet there for a meal. A couple great places this group has tried are Chez Gerard in Hopwood, PA, and the Deerpark Inn in Buckhannon. There is still a long list of restaurants the group plans to try.

Scrabble
This group gets together to play scrabble.

Play Reading
This group gets together to read and choral reading of plays and other literature.
