Interview Techniques

Congratulations! You have successfully landed an interview. Now what? The interview is one of the most important steps on your journey to employment. This is where the employer connects the resume with the person. It is important to remember that no matter how shining your references and resume are, if you are not well prepared for all of the aspects of an interview, you will not be hired. Many outstanding candidates have not received employment offers because of a poor interview.

An interview can be a nerve racking experience and the better you prepare, the more confident and hirable you will appear to the employer. There is so much more to an interview than simply answering rote questions. This is where you have to shine and show that you are the best candidate for the position. You have to be able to sell your strengths and skills. It is important to realize that your physical appearance, mannerisms, vocalic, and gestures all have an impact on the impression and overall picture you present of yourself to a potential employer.

To prepare for an interview you can schedule an appointment with a Career Counselor to discuss interviewing techniques, engage in a mock interview, or discuss how to cope with interview related issues. Information is linked in pdf format on the various types of interviews, frequently asked questions in an interview, questions to ask in an interview, tips on answering questions, as well as interviewing etiquette.
