Community Art Program
The Community Art Program provides students the opportunity to take their ideas and develop or transform them through visual art media. Classes for children are designed to sharpen observation, encourage creativity and develop the ability to concentrate. Adults can enjoy the camaraderie of other adults as they explore their own artistic abilities and creativity through hands-on activities.
SMArt Kids (ages 3-5)

Stories, music and art...what a SMArt way to learn! All three unite in this fun interactive class for Pre-K children. Each week, children's literature and music will guide the exploration of a special theme, such as Magical Kingdoms, Down on the Farm, Jungle Rhythm, or Sleepyhead Tales. A thematic craft activity using a variety of materials and media will conclude each class. (Activities vary each semester.)
Mask Making/Puppetry for Kids (ages 5-8)

This fun art class will explore the art of Mask Making and Puppetry through the ages. We will create masks which allow the students to develop self expression and self confidence while they are learning about an ancient art. Projects will be used as a way of promoting self expression, instilling self confidence, and an introduction to storytelling and drama.
Especially for You Greeting Card Class (ages 5-8)*

This fun art class is taught by a former Hallmark Card lettering artist. Students will have fun designing and producing their own original set of "All Occasion" greeting cards while learning how to incorporate elements of design, lettering and penmanship. Emphasis will be placed on occasions such as birthdays, get well, anniversaries and special holidays. Greeting cards made by students will have the "personal touch" that is hard to find in our computer/internet age.

In this popular class, students have fun creating art by making sculptures, prints, paintings, and more, while exploring art through the eyes of artists in history.

Making Our Own Picture Books (ages 8-10)

Children participating in this class will be exploring writer’s and illustrator’s craft through close study of notable picture books – books in which the illustrations are as important as the text in creation of meaning. Using a variety of media, we will combine text and illustrations to create unique works of art. The last class will culminate in an informal display to share with family and friends.
Clay for Kids: Ages 8-11

This class will focus on traditional hand building techniques for forming clay that younger children can master. Each child will walk away from this class with several fun and colorful projects. (Each student will need to bring a five quart bucket as well as a smock or any clothes that can get dirty.)

Clay for Teens: Ages 12-15

Session II: July 28- August 7, Monday-Thursday, 9:00-11:00am.
Cost: $170.00 (includes materials)
This class is meant to be an introduction to the traditional methods of working with clay. Students will make several small quick hand-built projects before moving to the wheel. No experience is necessary for this class, just a willingness to get dirty and have fun! (Each student will need to bring a five quart bucket as well as a smock or any clothes that can get dirty.)

Introduction to Printmaking (various ages)

Cost: $150.00 (includes materials)
Ages 9-11 – 9:00-11:00am
Ages 12-15 – 1:00-3:00pm

In this fun class, students will learn two techniques of printmaking: relief and silkscreen. Two of the prints will concentrate on relief using collograph plates and linoleum blocks. The other print will be a silkscreen.
Introduction to Digital Photography (ages 13-up)

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:00-7:30pm. Cost: $80.00
Learn how to get the most out of your digital camera. In this informative class, students will learn how to most effectively and efficiently capture those once in a lifetime moments. This course will emphasize basic photographic skills including equipment, lenses, focusing, ISO, depth of field, shooting modes, using artificial light, composition, and basic editing on computer. The course will also feature a field trip, to be determined with feedback from the students.
Calligraphy for Adults

With the growing use of the computer and the internet, people are dismissing the old fashioned use of hand lettering and note writing. Through individual instruction from a professional calligrapher, this course shows students how to transform their own handwriting into beautiful calligraphic design. This class will focus on the Italic style, as it is the most legible and simplistic form to begin with. Come revisit the past art of elegance, etiquette, and that personal touch so missing from our digital lives of today!
Wheel Thrown Clay for Beginners (ages16-adult)

This session will focus on the introduction of techniques needed to center and open up clay on the potter’s wheel. This introductory class will focus on making open vessels such as mugs, bowls, planters, etc.
Intermediate Wheel Thrown Clay (ages 16-adult)

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 6:00-8:00pm. Cost: $255.00 (includes materials)
This class will build upon the skills introduced in Wheel Thrown Clay for Beginners. Anyone able to center clay on the wheel is invited to take this class. We will explore some variations to the mug and bowl design, as well as introduce more intricate forms such as lidded vessels, teapots, casseroles, etc.
Introduction to Adobe Photoshop for Adults

Intermediate Adobe Photoshop will continue upon the Introduction course in providing more tools and ways to edit digital imagery. This class will include the use of quick keys, workflow improvement and the automation of tasks within Adobe Photoshop.

Introduction to Flash will consist of several classes allowing the students to get acquainted with the Flash software's user interface, tools, project organization, layers, tricks, tips, basic animation rendering and web exporting.
Intro to Final Cut Pro for Adults

Introduction to Final Cut Pro will consist of several classes allowing the students to get acquainted with the user interface, tools, layers, filters, and basic video rendering. It will also provide them with skills needed to import and export video at varying quality.
Yoga 4 Creativity

Yoga is great for strengthening your body, stimulating your mind and adding fuel to your creative pursuits, whether it be in the visual, performing, or everyday arts. This moderately paced, flow-style class will explore yoga techniques, such as posture sequencing, breath awareness, and mindful meditation, to encourage the awakening of creative energy.
