THE TRAINING STAFF

The current training staff consists of ten counselors/therapists: eight doctoral-level, licensed psychologists, and two A.B.D.-level Supervised Psychologists. Several of the staff have faculty appointments in related academic disciplines, including Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology and Rehabilitation, and Physical Education. All of the staff serve as educators and consultants to the University and the West Virginia community.

Faculty
Catherine A. Yura, Ed.D.

West Virginia University (1985), Director, Licensed Psychologist in West Virginia.
Orientation: Adlerian, Cognitive-behavioral, Developmental psychology
Emphasis: Individual counseling, couples therapy, eating disorders, career, outreach/consultation, and crisis intervention.
Lynda Birckhead Danley, Ph.D.
University of Maryland (1984), Associate Director/Training Director, Licensed Psychologist in West Virginia and Illinois (inactive)
Orientation: Integrationist -- including psychodynamic (especially object relations and self psychology), social learning, cognitive-behavioral, developmental, humanistic and systems models, as well as emerging empirical research on topics such as the impact of trauma/abuse, neglect and loss.
Emphasis: Individual, couples and group psychotherapy; EMDR; supervision/training, diversity issues, ethics, professional issues.
Other Interests/Professional Activities: Hypnosis, APA: Division 17 Program Committee, Division 29; ACPA Commission VII (Counseling and Psychological Services); West Virginia Psychological Association: President Elect (2005), Continuing Education Committee, Liaison to APA Committee on Women in Psychology; EMDR International Association; The Counseling Psychologist--Editorial Board; WVU Social Justice Mediator.
Edward F. Etzel, Ed.D.
West Virginia University (1989), Associate Professor, Psychologist, Intercollegiate Athletics, Licensed Psychologist in West Virginia.
Orientation: Developmental psychology, stress management.
Emphasis: Sports psychology.
K. Sue Hodgson, Ph.D.
University of Kentucky (1988), Coordinator of Career Counseling Services, Coordinator of the Walk-In Counseling Clinic, Coordinator of Media Services ("bibliotherapy," the World Wide Web, press liaison, etc.), Licensed Psychologist in West Virginia.
Orientation: Gestalt, existential and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Emphasis: Career Counseling, Women's Issues, General Psychotherapy.
Peter J. Kahn, Ph.D.
Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (2000), Outreach Coordinator, Licensed Psychologist in West Virginia.
Orientation: Integrative—with Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychodynamic, and Family Systems Elements.
Emphasis: Individual and couples counseling; clinical hypnosis; depression; men’s issues.
Ian S. Kellems, Ph.D.
University of Maryland Ph.D. (2006).
Orientation: Integrative, with interpersonal and humanistic emphasis.
Emphasis: Individual counseling, Group counseling, religious/spiritual issues, LGBT issues, academic performance, and adventure therapy.
Marion (Mun) P. Kostka, Ed.D.
West Virginia University (1973), Coordinator, Institutional (National) Testing Program, Licensed Psychologist in West Virginia.
Orientation: Eclectic relationship therapy on a foundation of behavioral techniques.
Emphasis: Stress management, performance anxiety, the use of hypnosis and biofeedback techniques.
Other Interests/Professional Activities: West Virginia Psychological Association, President Elect (2004), President (2005); Coordinator of West Virginia University Annual Hypnosis Workshop; Fraternity faculty advisor at WVU: Board Member of the Morgantown Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center. Daniel G. Long II, Ph.D.
George Mason University (2005).
Orientation: Integrative - Relational/Developmental framework with an emphasis on Psychodynamic (including self-psychology, object relations, intersubjectivity), Humanistic, and Cognitive-Behavioral approaches.
Emphasis: Individual counseling, psychoeducational assessment, anxiety disorders, Axis II/pattern disorders treatment, relationship issues, and men’s issues.
Philip E. Comer, Ph.D.
West Virginia University (1965), Past Director/Professor Emeritus of Psychology (awarded Outstanding Professor, State of West Virginia - 1992), Clinical Professor of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, Licensed Psychologist in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Orientation: Eclectic, developmental, relationship.
Emphasis: Traditional therapy, psychodiagnosis, plus stress management with biofeedback and hypnosis; rehabilitation psychology.
