What is Healthy "U" ?

Healthy "U" is a co-curricular educational program developed by WVU Dining Services to help students learn to make healthy choices. The four components of the program are:

 

- Wellness Centers

  Located in each of our dining rooms that describe the program, display the USDA's "My Pyramid", contain brochures on a variety of nutritional topics and have the Healthy "U" Daily Diet available that day in our dining rooms.

 

  - Daily Diet (available in all dining rooms)
  A sheet which lists a sample Healthy "U" diet for the day that makes up a 2,000 calorie intake which has been analyzed for nutrient value and contains less than 20% of your daily value for fat, saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol and contains at least 20% of your daily value for vitamins and minerals such as fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium and Iron. It also meets the FDA recommendations for:
 

Less than 65g total fat
Less than 20g saturated fat
Less than 300mg cholesterol
Less than 2,400mg sodium
Fiber greater than or equal to 25g
Total carbohydrates of 300g

*The 2,000 calorie total leaves room for incidentals and healthy treats throughout the day.

 

  - Meetings
  Floor meeting and focus groups conducted by our staff dietitian and nutrition interns on a variety of nutritional topics.

 

  - One on One
  One on One consultations with our staff dietitian to help interested individual students meet their nutritional goals.
