Mountain Biking - Other Locations

A number of other locations in WV have trails or roads open for mountain biking. Within the Monongahelia National Forest , any trail that is not located within a designated Wilderness area (Dolly Sods, Cranberry, Otter Creek, and Laurell Fork) can be navigated by mountain bike. Also, any forest road can be used for biking. There are hundreds and hundreds of miles of trails and roads on the MNF that are not included in the other listed locations in this guide. Areas to check out include Horseshoe Run (see the campground listing), Cheat Mtn/Shavers Fork Area (south of Elkins, West of Durbin), Glady/Durbin/Middle Mountain Area (north of Durbin), and west of the town of Slatyfork (near Snowshoe). These areas are listed on the MNF web site - http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/mnf/rec/mountain_biking_opportunities.html

The State Park systems in WV, Pennsylvania and Maryland also have opportunities for Mountian Biking. In WV, Valley Falls, Cacapon, Holly River, Little Beaver, Little Creek, Stonewall Jackson Lake, and Twin Falls State Parks as well as Kanawha State Forest all have trails conducive to mountain biking. Check out the WV state parks web site for information.
