Whitewater - Lower Big Sandy Creek (Rockville Bridge to the Cheat River)

Description

Class IV-V. Continuous class III-IV whitewater on this beautiful creek with a number of class IV and few class V drops (and one V+) thrown in for fun. Two major waterfalls punctuate this run. 5 miles. Map (pdf).

Directions from Morgantown

I 68 East to Coopers Rock exit. Turn left off exit and go 3.3 miles (bottom of the hill) to CR 73/5 (Laurel run rd). Go right for .6 miles. At the intersection go left on gravel rd for about 3 miles to the creek and the put-in at Rockville Bridge (the last mile used to be a 4x4 rd but is in better shape now). Take out at the Jenkinsburg bridge on the Cheat River (from Rockville, go south on cr 14 and 14-4 into the Cheat Canyon ).
