Whitewater - Middle Yougiogeheny River
Description
This is a good beginner river. 9 miles total with the first 1/3 whitewater, the middle 1/3 flat water and the last 1/3 whitewater. This section runs much of the time in the summer, with recreational releases from the Yough Dam on the weekends. Class I-II. Boats can be rented in Ohiopyle and commercial trips are offered (see state park web site). State Park Map (pdf)
Directions from Morgantown
I 68 to Bruceton Mills. North on Rt. 26 for 13.3 miles to US 40. Cross and continue 7.2 miles to Confluence. Take River Rd to the left (south side of the river) for 1.7 miles to Ramcat put-in. The take out is at Ohiopyle - go right out of the parking lot on Ramcat rd. for 2.2 miles to Sugar Loaf Rd. Go right for 7.5 miles to Ohiopyle. Turn right and go two blocks. Turn right and go to the take out parking on the left.
