Whitewater - North Branch River (Barnum to Bloomington)
Description
This run is good for intermediate open boaters and beginner kayakers. Mostly class II with one class III rapid. Releases from the Jennings Randolph Dam are done in the spring and potentially in the fall (Check the web site for the schedule). Map (pdf).
Directions from Morgantown
I 68 to Friendsville, MD. Follow Rt. 42 South for 7.5 miles to Rt 219S. Go 8.1 miles to Sand Flat Rd. Turn left and go 4.4miles to SR 135. Turn left and then go about 16.5 miles to Bloomington. The take-out is underneath the railroad bridge (take local roads through neighborhood to public take-out - changing "room" near the river). To get to the put-in, continue on sr 135 in Bloomington and go over the bridge to sr 46. Follow for 5.6 miles and go right on 46/2 to Barnum about 2 miles to the river. There is a large parking lot and facilities (bathroom, change house).
