Whitewater - Shavers Fork (Rt 33 to Parsons)

Description

Class I-II. Nice scenery. Good overnight potential. Intermediate open canoe run or good beginner whitewater run. 26 miles with potential alternitive put in/take outs along CR 6, 7 and 41 . Map (pdf).

Directions from Morgantown

Directions depend on where you decide to put-in/take-out. If putting in at Rt. 33 and taking out at Clifton Run, Travel I-79 south to Weston (exit 99). Take rt. 33 east to Elkins. Continue on 33 east for 3.5 miles. Go left onto CR 33/8 for 1.7 miles to the put-in under the bridge. To get to the take-out, travel east for a short distance to the entrance to the Stuart Rec. Area on the left (PR 91). At the first intersection go straight onto CR 6. Travel this for 7.1 miles to the Clifton Run bridge. If putting in further north on the river, travel to Parsons (see directions to Dry Fork). The take-out is at the first bridge in Parsons. From the bridge, go east and then take the second right on local rds through a housing developement to end up on CR 41 (6 when you enter Randolph Co). There are multiple put-in's along this rd as it follows the river.
