Regional Incentive Fee for Non-Resident Students in Off-Campus Programs

West Virginia University offers a Regional Incentive Fee to residents in certain border counties for specific program to increase enrollment viability of off-campus graduate programs in border areas.

While WVU has delivered graduate instruction to students throughout the state for more 30 years, declining population and a saturated market has led to less program opportunities for residents in outlying areas. It is not uncommon to have an insufficient number of West Virginia residents interested in a program to make it viable economically or academically. In border areas of the state where there are significant non-resident populations nearby, WVU's non-resident fees are not competitive with in-state rates of regional colleges and universities. A fee midway between WVU's resident and non-resident rates would increase access, both geographically and financially, for border residents thus increasing the viability of programming for resident students.

This fee would be applicable by program and region and dependent upon resident attendance. The Regional Incentive Fee cannot be used for online degree programs. Some of online degree programs are offered to non-residents at in-state rates through the Electronic Campus of the Southern Regional Education Board.

Here is list of programs that are currently approved for regional incentive fee tuition.

In an effort to better serve WVU graduate students living out-of-state but close to one of Extended Learning's Regional Campuses, the Regional Incentive Fee plan was enacted to lessen the costs of tuition and fees for certain degree programs in specific out-of-state locations.

If you are taking courses in one of the degree programs below AND you are taking them from the regional center listed AND you can prove that you have permanent resident in one of the state and counties listed below, then you can apply for a reduction in your tuition and fees through Extended Learning.

To request a Regional Incentive Fee Application, contact WVU Extended Learning by phone at 1-800-2LEARN2.
