Prospective Students

West Virginia University has been offering off-campus degree programs for more than 30 years. As the technology as evolved, WVU has expanded its offerings around the state, the nation and even the world. Today we offer more programs than ever before. See the list of degrees available.

Why Enroll at WVU

Our programs are nationally recognized for academic quality. West Virginia University is accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and School and many of our degree programs hold separate accreditation within their disciplines, an important factor to consider when comparing our degrees to others.

Programs offered through Extended Learning are designed with the working adult in mind. Some degrees are offered totally online, while others are offered in a “blended” format with some online classes and some on-site meetings.

Many of the faculty who teach for Extended Learning are full-time instructors who have earned teaching awards for their innovation and passion for teaching. Our adjunct instructors have experience in their respective professions and are hired for the commitment to serving non-traditional students.

WVU is affordable. “The Student’s Guide to America’s Best 100 Colleges” consistently puts WVU in its top 100 based on academic quality and low costs.  Some online programs and classes are offered to non-residents at the in-state rate through the Electronic Campus of the Southern Regional Education Board. Some off-campus programs offer special rates for residents in bordering counties through the Regional Incentive Fee (LINK to RIF chart).

What Is Distance Learning?

Distance learning, sometimes called e-learning, is a way of providing learning opportunities characterized by the separation of teacher and learner specifically designed to be carried out remotely through the use of emerging technologies. Distance learning is not constrained by geographic area and allows us to extend learning to virtually anywhere.
