Morgan County is nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, approximately 90 miles west of the Baltimore - Washington, DC areas. The town of Bath was established in 1776, known today as Berkeley Springs, is the county seat and is recorded as the first “spa” in the country. The spring waters attracted George Washington to the area for its perceived restorative attributes. Much Civil War history lies close to the area and the C&O Canal borders the Potomac River to the north. Hunting and breath taking vistas exist throughout the county and make for a great tourist community. Morgan County is a part of the ever growing eastern panhandle of West Virginia. Berkeley Springs is home to the Apple Butter Festival each October and the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting festival in January. This community has also been identified as one of the 100 best small art towns. WVU Morgan County Extension Service 129 Fairfax St. Berkeley Springs, WV 25411 (304) 258-8400 FAX (304) 258-4100 |
